Apple REIT Eight, Inc. is a public, non-listed real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on the ownership of upscale, extended-stay and select-service hotels. Our hotels operate under the Courtyard® by Marriott®, Fairfield Inn® by Marriott®, Fairfield Inn & Suites® by Marriott®, Residence Inn® by Marriott®, SpringHill Suites® by Marriott®, TownePlace Suites® by Marriott®, Marriott®, Homewood Suites by Hilton®, Hilton Garden Inn®, Hampton Inn® and Hampton Inn & Suites® brands. Our focus is on the ownership of high-quality real estate that generates attractive returns for our shareholders. Currently, our portfolio consists 51 hotels, containing a total of 5,908 guestrooms diversified among attractive markets in 19 states.

 

Apple REIT Eight, Inc. was formed on January 19, 2007, began fundraising on July 19, 2007, and formally began hotel operations on November 9, 2007 with the acquisition of our first hotels, a 162-room Courtyard® by Marriott® in Somerset, New Jersey and a an 82-room SpringHill Suites® by Marriott® in Greensboro, North Carolina. From July 19, 2007 until April 21, 2008, the Company, through a public offering of shares managed by David Lerner Associates, Inc., a New York-based investment firm, raised its $1 billion goal of equity capital gross proceeds. During that same time, the Company diligently acquired properties and today our portfolio consists of 51 hotels, with 5,908 guestrooms, in 19 states.

 

The company was formed by Glade M. Knight, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. Mr. Knight has been involved in the management of and investment in real estate ventures for more than 37 years. He is also the Chairman and CEO of Apple REIT Six, Inc., Apple REIT Seven, Inc. and Apple REIT Nine, Inc.
